Mackenzi Farquer is the mastermind of Lockwood, a popular boutique brand in Astoria, Jackson Heights, and Corona. Having gotten married in the Paper Factory Hotel, she’s as married to Astoria as she is to her partner, Kellner. Despite the vast inventory, Lockwood never feels overwhelming and keeps its cute and kitschy front, with much of it designed by Queens artists.
Check out their great selection of cards like their Seedlings Friendship card! The envelopes are made of 100% Plantable Seed Paper and contain a mixture of non-invasive wildflower seeds.
Working as a server in Times Square, customers would always tell Andrea Jimenez about the lack of Spanish or Portuguese-language tourism resources. Jimenez launched a website, as well as various social media channels to give them easy access to a bite of the Big Apple. It’s chockful of information about must-sees, free (!) events, attractions, and shopping destinations. She employs three freelancers and five employees from Colombia.

The founder of the restaurant, Maria Cano, is a former judge who fled bloodshed in Colombia and landed in Jackson Heights. Having become a classic under the 7 train, her sons, Douglas Arevalo and Alejandro Osorio, encouraged her to expand her business and open a brick-and-mortar store. Her arepa de choclo is sweet, thin, and served with any number of sizzling meats.
