Meet Three More Small Business Wonder Women

Like many small business owners, Maxi's Noodle is a labor of love. Maxi's mother had wanted to open a wonton shop and had gone to Canada to learn with a family friend how to make the best wontons -- until she learned she had cancer. Maxi could not let her mother’s dream die with her, so she quit her corporate job to open a wonton shop. By night, her aunt lent her bakery to Maxi and word spread of Maxi’s Noodle until it reached the ears of a New York Times food critic.

To Maxi, this was a sign of divine recognition from her mother and she invites you to try their famous beef stew noodles!

The Brass Owl
Nicole Panettieri had some big shoes to fill with The Brass Owl. From 1928, her family has been in possession of a shoe repair store and from 2004, her parents have run a flip flop boutique in Boca Raton, Florida. However, she refined her skills as a buyer for department stores, including Macy’s, K&G Fashion Superstore, and Ross Dress for Less before opening The Brass Owl, where she continues the family legacy of selling chic shoes and eclectic accessories and gifts.

When Queens Comfort moved two blocks away, the D’Alessio family held onto the original space and transformed it into a zany doughnut showcase for Montana D'Alessio Barbier and her new baking partner, Jackie Legge.
