What’s to like at Queens Bully?
Queens Bully is the nickname that owner Rohan Aggarwal grew up calling Queens Boulevard and an American barbecue spot that imbues flavors from around Queens and the world into classic American meats and vegetables. Although Aggarwal’s father was raised vegetarian, he had his first taste of barbecue and fell in love, bestowing that same love of barbecue in his son.
Aggarwal still uses the same smoker for dishes like butter chicken wings. “Everyone knows Indian butter chicken,” he says.
He also offers flavors like BBQ banh mi, with jackfruit as a substitute for a vegetarian option.
Despite his winsome attitude and prize-winning barbecue (Aggarwal won $50,000 on Food Network’s Chopped), these past few months have been a struggle.
“Last year, there would still be a crowd at 1 a.m. Now we can’t seat later than 10. We were a major place for birthdays, bridal showers. We had two weddings booked for this summer; one is postponed until next summer. There won’t be a dull moment in 2021. Hopefully.”
